Imprisoned man charged with murder of inmate

Five prison inmates, including Covington resident Dante Ray Myles, have been charged with the murder of fellow inmate Laderick Cornellius Chappel at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.

Myles, 27, was charged with armed robbery and murder along with four other Georgia inmates after allegedly throwing Chappel off the second floor of the prison dormitory.

Lost boy found walking through neighborhood

A young boy was reportedly found walking through a neighborhood looking for his mom on Friday. A deputy with the Newton County Sheriff's Office said he responded to a call about a lost child at Lakeside Circle. According to a report, a man told the deputy that he was outside exercising and he came across a young boy who looked to be about 4 years old crying for his mother.

Civil Service secretary experiences Europe

A seldom mentioned group of patriots from World War II were the dedicated men and women of the Civil Service. From the Civil Air Patrol to a clerk typist, members of the Civil Service played a vital role. Their willingness to dedicate talents and time in non-combat positions released untold thousands of men for essential military duties. Miriam "Mickey" Stanley Hogan was one such talent.

Born in 1918 into the tiny farming community of Mendes, Ga., Covington resident Miriam "Mickey" Hogan experienced the Great Depression. "Food and jobs were scarce," she said. "We moved around a lot, including Florida."
