The real cost of Thanksgiving

MACON, Ga. – The national average cost of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for 10 increased less than 1 percent this year from last, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation's (AFBF) 29th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner Price Survey. The informal survey, conducted from Oct. 31 to Nov. 12 by 179 volunteer shoppers from 35 states, shows the national retail cost of menu items for a classic Thanksgiving dinner is $49.41, a 37-cent price increase from last year's average of $49.04. That makes the cost per person $4.94, less than the cost of most fast-food meals.

Hornyhead Fish Head Festival winners

Touting their horns: The results are in for the Hornyhead Fish Head Festival, which was held Saturday in Newborn. (L-r) Youth Winner: Eli Galloway - 8 inches long with 8 horns. Adult Winner: Tom Krieger - 6 inches long with 11 horns. Children's Winner: Malcom Whitaker - 7 1/8 inches long with 9 horns. The festival also included a parade, a flea market and other arts and crafts booths. The fish were fried, and according to residents, taste like trout.

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves placed pitching coach Roger McDowell on administrative leave Friday while they investigate allegations that he made homophobic comments and crude gestures toward fans before a game in San Francisco last weekend.

McDowell also is accused of using a baseball bat to threaten a fan who objected to his actions.
