Gas prices down from previous week

Average retail gasoline prices in Atlanta have fallen 4.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.37/gal yesterday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 4.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.61/gal, according to gasoline price website AtlantaGasPrices.com.

CPD Officer’s vehicle hit by drunk driver

A Covington Police Officer was rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver last week.

The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 278 at approximately 1:45 a.m. Friday, May 25. Officer Bob Yarbrough was backing up another officer on a traffic stop when a vehicle driven by 37-year-old Conson Wilson Starr struck the car and drug it roughly 40-feet.

Man called gay slurs, attacked

When a Covington police officer arrived at the scene of an assault call, Elijah Bagby said he was jogging down the street when he was approached by three men.

Bagby told the officer that Quindarious Webb, Quincy Jackson and Ronald Hayes started following him while yelling expletives and saying they did not like gay people on their street. The three men grabbed Bagby.
