NCSS Spelling Bee returns

The 2015 System Spelling Bee has returned, and The Newton County School System will host the annual event. Each of the system's elementary and middle schools will compete this year at Newton High School on Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. Students in grades four through eight are eligible to participate, with each school sending their own spelling bee champion and runner up to compete in the tournament.

Artful Harvest celebrated

Southern Heartland Arts' annual "Artful Harvest" event took place Thursday evening with judges awarding first, second and third place awards to a variety of artists and styles of art. Afterwards refreshments were served and people had a chance to mingle and check out the art.
