Several schools will see technology updates soon after the Newton County Board of Education approved the updates - most of which will be paid for out of E-rate funding.
Director of Technology and Media Services Dr. Gary Shattuck presented a proposal to the Newton County Board of Education in their June meeting, outlining the schools that are eligible for reimbursement, as well as first and second priority schools that have not had technology updates for many years.

The Newton County Board of Commissioners moved forward with the restoration of the historic Brick Store building and approved several grants at Tuesday's meeting.
The board unanimously approved spending $189,000 of a previous $250,000 state grant for the restoration Brick Store, located on U.S. Highway 278 about half a mile east of the intersection of Ga. Highway 11. The low bid came in from John W. Spratlin & Son.
The Newton County School Board approved a change order for athletic field lighting Tuesday, after forgetting to add the $539,143 needed into the bid for the replacement Newton High School.
The cost will be paid out of capital project funds and the proposal, submitted by the same contractor that is working on the rest of the replacement high school, and was comparable to the cost of lighting at both Alcovy and Eastside High Schools previously.
