Rotarians will be taking applications for their annual stocking delivery from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday at the Salvation Army located at 5193 Washington Street. Good deed: Ryan Hurst, 7, found $600 in the Kids R Great Day Care parking lot. He told his mom he needed to take it inside to turn it in. Shawn Moore, left, a Clayton County fireman had lost the money. According to Moore, he was sure the cash would never be turned in, and was delighted that good deeds still happen.

Feeding the needy

Stocking the pantry: Each Covington Elkadette and Elks member has been asked to contribute to the Food Pantry in Newton County this fall. Adrian and Larry Capes have spearheaded this effort by collecting the canned goods and delivering them to the food pantry. Please help by bringing some food items to the Lodge on your next trip. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a flood warning for the Alcovy River near Covington. At 2:15 p.m. Thursday the stage was 12.1 feet and rising slowly. Flood stage for the Alcovy River is 12.0 feet.

Veteran's Day ceremony on the square

Despite the weather, many people gathered on the square Wednesday morning to honor our veterans. The Social Circle High School JROTC presented the colors, Ric Chiapetta sang patriotic songs, Glenn Whitaker spoke praising words of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and Terry Moore and Don Floyd presented a red, white and blue wreath.
