Instead of buying chocolates and flowers for their Valentine's on Saturday, the Social Circle High School wrestling team won the GHSA 2A Traditional State Championship at the Macon Centerplex. Just a month after winning the GHSA Team State 2A title (first state wrestling title in school history), the Redskin's won their first Traditional State title in school history.
The Social Circle High School swim team girls' relay qualified for two events at the GHSA State Meet, which took place last weekend, February 6th & 7th at Georgia Tech. The girls, who made the state qualifying time last month in the 200 freestyle relay, worked hard towards getting the coveted time in the 200 medley relay as well. They successfully achieved that goal at a meet in Gainesville, swimming a combined 1.6 seconds under their goal time. Two weeks after winning the team state tournament for the first time in school history, the Social Circle Wrestling team won the Traditional Area Tournament for the first time in school history. The Redskins will be sending 13 grapplers to the 8-AA Eastern Sectional Traditional Tournament this weekend at Greater Atlanta Christian. The top four wrestlers in each weight classification (14) will advance to the Traditional State in two weeks.
The Social Circle High School wrestling team won the 2-AA GHSATeam Dual Championship last Saturday at the Macon Centreplex. The Redskins won in exciting fashion over Bremen 35 to 31 to take the state title for the first time in school history. The SCHS team bus was escorted into town after the victory by the Social Circle City Police at around 8:00 p.m. Saturday night with flashing blue lights and sirens where a crowd of 200-300 residents cheered on the team as traffic was blocked by a Social Circle City fire truck.
Social Circle defeated Bremen 35-31 to win the 2014-2015 GHSA class AA team dual wrestling championship. This is the first time in Social Circle wrestling history that they've won the state championship.
The Social Circle High School varsity wrestling team placed sixth at the Takedown Sportswear Invitational at Archer High School last weekend. Archer, the back-to-back State champions in 6-AAAAAA hosted the 39 school event which show cased top teams from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina.
The Social Circle High School wrestling team took its undefeated record to the "Quad at the Rock" dual tournament at Rockdale High School December 19. SCHS lost for the first time all year 31-34 to Chattahoochee High School in its first match of the tournament. Despite the initial loss, the Redskins won their remaining two matches 72-6 over Berkmar and 47-21 over host Rockdale. The night ended with Chattahoochee winning the tournament and Social Circle finishing in second place.
Last year Social Circle High School Varsity Wrestling team won the Panther Invitational with Jefferson as runner-up. This year Jefferson won the two day event, at Jackson County High School with the Redskins finishing in second place. The Panther Invitational is a traditional tournament loaded with talented wrestling programs from all over the state including South Carolina (25 teams).
The Social Circle High School Wrestling team started its season off by winning the Parkview Thanksgiving Duals tournament last Wednesday with a perfect 5-0 record. The tourney hosted by Parkview High School had 12 schools participating in the highly touted event (Alexander, Brookwood, Duluth, East Coweta, Habersham Central, Hiram, Luella, Parkview, Peachtree Ridge, Social Circle, Union Grove and West Oak, S.C.).
Social Circle High School All-State 2nd Baseman Brea Dickson signed with Division 1 Austin Peay State University on November 11. Brea has won countless awards in her high school softball career. She is the only SCHS senior to be selected to the All-State team. She has also won best all-around and MVP. The Redskins have five returning state placers on the team from last year's lineup.
