Agriculture Week spotlights contributions farming makes to Georgia March 14-20
Georgia farmers not only grow our food and clothes but they also make a significant contribution to the state’s economy. According to the USDA, there are almost 48,000 farms in Georgia that produce annual sales of more than $1,000 with an average farm size of 212 acres. Georgia has 10.5 million acres of farmland.

Nearly 100 outstanding high school seniors recently attended Georgia Southern University’s second annual Southern Leadership Excellence Academics and Dedication (LEAD) Conference at its main campus in Statesboro. Throughout the day they attended leadership workshops, as well as toured the campus and residence halls

The parents of Deputy Wesley Atha, injured last summer in the line of duty, have organized a fundraising campaign to purchase these vests for every county deputy. Their fundraising goal is $113,000. Each vest costs between $500-$700, depending on the size. County’s mayors discuss railroad at bi-monthly meeting
Though Newton County residents are split on their opinions toward purchasing the Norfolk Southern railroad, the mayors of Newborn and Mansfield appear to be in support of the idea and said Friday they’d like to see the rails converted to trails in their small cities.

Hilton Head Island, S.C-Soft rain is falling, the wind is blowing, and the skies are cloudy. But the temperature is pleasantly mild, and for three days previous to this one, late winter's costal sun has shown brilliantly. I will be leaving here soon, and that thought saddens me. I will miss my duck. There has never been such a duck. I don't know much about ducks, but this one lives in a lagoon outside my bedroom window and makes a sound like, "Braaaack! Braaaack!"

Victim identified in Sunday murder

Victim identified in Sunday murder
The victim of Sunday night’s shooting has been identified as 19-year-old Audrey Atkinson. The man investigators believe responsible – 22-year-old Anthony Michael Barrow –  was transported to Grady Hospital with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and later died.
