COVINGTON, Ga. - The City of Covington is working on its plans for a 93-acre project at Parker’s Pasture, located off Pennington Street.

The council approved sewer improvements at Parker’s Pasture during its last meeting July 17. Once those improvements are completed, the city is prepared to move forward with other plans for the park.

The park project could potentially include a disk golf course, multi-purpose fields, pavilion, skate park, mountain bike trails, hiking/walking trails, tennis courts, dog park, Covington Public Relations Manager Trey Sanders said.

“Keep in mind, we say potential plan because things are going to change, it’s not engraved in stone,” City Manager Leigh Anne Knight said. “We just have some, what we think, are good conceptual ideas of what can go into that park.”

Knight said there is not a time table currently in place for the amenities at the park.

“Some things will happen sooner than others,” she said. “Based on funding, you know, this is the path we’re going in.”

It is tentatively being called “Central Park” because of its central location between the east and west sides of the city.

Sanders said a presentation unveiling more of the details of the park is in the works for either the Aug. 21 or Sept. 6 council meeting.

The council also agreed on the new logo for parks within the city, which pulls from the new City of Covington logo, approved earlier this year.

The city’s logo features three icons in separate boxes. It includes a tree symbolic of an active lifestyle and recreation opportunities within the city. That portion of the logo was pulled to create a new park logo, which will be used at all of the city’s parks.
