Man shoots self in Kroger parking lot

A man was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital late Monday after he apparently shot himself in a grocery store parking lot, Covington police reported.

Police were dispatched about 8:24 p.m. to the parking lot of Kroger at 3139 U.S. Highway 278. The wounded man was lying on the sidewalk propped against a column and was being tended to by a nurse, according to the police report.

The man had apparently shot himself in a vehicle in the parking lot, then walked in and out of the store, police reported. A witness reported she had heard no arguments or scuffling.

The man was listed as stable at the hospital, police reported.
