COVINGTON, Ga. – The Covington Police Department announced Friday the establishment of a Safe Exchange Zone at its headquarters, located at 13183 Harland Drive. This new initiative provides a secure and monitored location for residents to conduct transactions such as online marketplace exchanges, child custody exchanges or other personal meetups.
The Safe Exchange Zone is located in the front parking lot of the Police Department and is monitored 24/7 by surveillance cameras, enhancing public safety during exchanges. The goal of the zone is to reduce the risk of theft, scams or harm that can sometimes arise during in-person transactions.
“Creating this space for our community is part of our ongoing commitment to promoting safety for our community,” said Covington Police Department Captain Mike Tinsley. “We encourage residents to use this service for added peace of mind when conducting personal transactions or exchanges.”
The Safe Exchange Zone is open and available to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Although officers will not be directly involved in exchanges, the constant video monitoring provides an additional layer of protection.
