ATLANTA, Ga. - Covington Police Department Officer Matt Cooper recently celebrated his alive date, ran in the CPD Fuzz Run, enjoyed a car show in his honor and was the team captain for the Atlanta Falcons. Tuesday night, however, Officer Cooper wore another uniform as he threw out the first pitch for the Braves in their game against the Phillies.

The Braves also honored Officer Cooper during the 4th inning of the contest and donated a portion of the night's ticket sales to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Officer Cooper was shot in the line of duty on Labor Day 2018 when responding to a shoplifting call at the Covington Walmart. Since then, the Newton County community and organizations across the state have wrapped their arms around Cooper and his family during his recovery.
