Crash with fatality closes I-20
One dead in late-night collision; westbound lanes closed until 10 p.m. Sunday

COVINGTON, Ga. — A crash on Interstate 20 led to at least one death and closed westbound lanes of the highway Sunday night.

The Georgia Department of Transportation reported the crash and said state troopers were on scene.

The crash was on westbound I-20 about 2 miles west of the John R. Williams Highway exit in Covington.

It happened at about 7:55 p.m. and is expected to clear at about 10 p.m.

Westbound traffic is being detoured onto Georgia 11 at the Monroe/Monticello exit and onto U.S. 278 at the Social Circle exit.

NEWTON COUNTY – A new development could soon find its way to Newton County. According to a Development of Regional Impact (DRI) filing with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, a company called Euphoric Development is seeking to build “Project Paradise” in the area of Old Atlanta Highway. The DRI filing was made on Jan. 30 and completed earlier this month.
