Newton County 4-H students recognized by board of commissioners for competition performance

The Newton County Board of Commissioners recognized Newton County UGA Extension & 4-H in Newton County students during the Tuesday, April 1 meeting for their efforts in the recent Project Achievement district competition.

Newton County had 32 participants compete with 284 other fourth through sixth graders in 14 counties at the Newton County Steam Academy on Feb. 4. 

Fifty-nine percent of Newton County’s fourth through sixth-grade 4-H students finished in the top three in their respective categories.

Newton County also had 16 middle and high school students finish in the top three of their competition last month. Students had to submit a portfolio, similar to a resume and then complete a demonstration of speeches, dances, vocal ensembles, monologues and even a cooking lab demonstration. Fourteen students in middle and high school placed in the top three.

Once again, the Nelson Heights Community Center was an object of discussion among the Newton County Board of Commissioners.
