Crime: drano bombs; airplane lands illegally

Newton County Board of Education member Eddie Johnson said a small aircraft landed on his property off Smith Store Road Friday.

According to reports, the aircraft landed in a hay field near his house, and flew off again before Newton County Sheriff’s deputies arrived.

Deputy Cortney Morrison said Johnson was able to get the airplane’s identification numbers and reported it to authorities. The NCSO then passed those numbers along to the Federal Aviation Authority.

Morrison said there was damage to the hay where the plane could have taken off and landed.

Shots fired

A Covington resident’s car was shot up and its tires were slashed in the early morning of May 3.

According to reports, the complainant said two white males began banging and kicking on the door trying to gain entry. The subjects told Covington Police that the suspects “had put their whole family at risk.”

Reportedly the white males got back into their four-door Ford truck after a few minutes of banging on the door. According to reports, the suspects drove down to the next house, before returning shortly after. The suspects then began banging on the door again.

According to reports, the two suspects proceeded to slash the tires on the car, belonging to the complainant’s boyfriend. The suspects then fired four rounds into the hood of the car, before fleeing the scene. Officers found four shell casings to a 380 auto.

Drano bomb

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office spoke with two juveniles who admitted to making a “Drano Bomb” Friday.

Deputies responded to a discharge firearm call on Lazo Hollow Lane, before discovering materials for the explosive device.
According to reports, deputies discovered a pile of aluminum foil and a coke bottle in a yard on Lazy Hollow Lane. Witnesses told deputies they watched two juveniles run from the yard into another.

Deputies then processed the juveniles, who admitted to placing liquid Drano and aluminum foil into the coke bottle, according to reports.
