COVINGTON, Ga. – Police arrested a 21-year-old Covington man Sunday afternoon after he was reportedly found naked near a basketball court.
According to a Covington Police Department incident report, officers were dispatched to the area of West Street and Clark Street just past 5:30 p.m. July 22 on a report of a naked male walking past the basketball courts on Clark Street.
After multiple reports on the subject’s direction of travel from citizens in the area, officers located the male being held at gunpoint by a citizen.
According to the report, the citizen told officers the male was “running towards several children with his arms open and appeared to be grabbing himself.”
The citizen is reportedly licensed to carry a firearm.
Josten Meeler was arrested and charged with public indecency, child molestation and pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was transported to Piedmont Newton Medical Center by police.
According to the sheriff’s office website, Meeler is currently booked in the Newton County Jail.
