Highway shooting leads to two arrests

NEWTON COUNTY – Two Covington men are facing charges regarding a shooting that occurred earlier this week.

Giovanni Allen and Jamal Donohue face multiple charges after deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a call on July 9 in reference to a shooting.

According to an NCSO press release, the incident first occurred at the Bailey’s gas station on Salem Road and Highway 81. Both Allen and Donohue followed the unidentified victim in a white sedan and fired several gunshots in the vicinity of the victim’s car.

Investigators located the vehicle that Allen and Donohue occupied at a residence in Newton County. Following a search warrant, both offenders were arrested.

Allen faces charges of intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of crime, discharge of a firearm on a public highway and aggravated assault.

Donahue faces charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and the possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
