Murder trial set to enter fourth day
Deante Hall

COVINGTON, Ga. – The murder trial of a Covington man accused in a 2016 killing will enter its fourth day Thursday.

Deante Hall, 38, is charged with gunning down 29-year-old Tony Butler July 6, 2016 on Gross Lake Parkway. After being on the run for three weeks, Hall was arrested by investigators with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office assisted by U.S. Marshals and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office at a house in Conyers July 29.

After the jury was selected Monday afternoon, the prosecution spent all day Tuesday and Wednesday presenting evidence including witness testimony and testimony from law enforcement officials and a medical examiner from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab.

Jurors saw crime scene photos and listened to a three hour interview sheriff’s investigators conducted with Hall after his arrest.

The prosecution is expected to rest early Thursday at which time the defense will present its case. The case will go to the jury after that.
