COVINGTON, Ga. - Two Covington residents found themselves in handcuffs on their way to the Newton County Jail after a report of a suspicious vehicle at Denny Dobbs Park resulted in a search and drug charges.
According to a Newton County Sheriff's Office incident report, Mondarius Prince and Gabriele Starry Hunter were in a 1991 Mercedes Benz at the park around 2 a.m. March 26. NCSO Deputy Matthew Robinson was dispatched to check on the vehicle and later arrested its occupants.
NCSO Deputy Michael Gregg told The Covington News that Robinson reported smelling the odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle.
Both Prince and Hunter were arrested. Hunter was charged with felony violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, while Prince was charged with open container and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. According to their booking reports, both have been released on bond.
According to the Newton County Recreation Department website, Denny Dobbs Park is only open from daylight until dark.
