MONTICELLO, Ga. - Piedmont Academy's mascot has a new name, thanks to two fifth graders who won the school-wide poll.
During the week of Aug.28 - Sept. 1, Piedmont Academy conducted a poll to name the school mascot. All of the students had the opportunity to suggest a name for the Piedmont Academy Cougar.
Four names were chosen out of the suggestions, and the student body voted on the remaining four names.
At the end of the week, the school had a ceremony to announce the winner. The Name the Cougar ceremony took place on September 1st. The votes were tallied, and the name with the most votes was "Big Blue," which was suggested by fifth graders Marissa Holder and Jake Pope. These students were the winners of name the Cougar. Not only did our mascot get a new name, but it also has a new costume! Go Big Blue!
