COVINGTON, Ga. — Residents in the Covington area recently had an added option for any lunch or dinner plans.

The Hibachi Grill Express officially opened its doors in Newton County on Oct. 16, 2021.

Unlike most hibachi restaurants that have the chef cooking in front of customers, this location offers alternative ways to enjoy their food. There’s a drive through, carry out and, still, dine in available for whichever suits the customer best.

Owner and Chef Xiaolong Zhu said he was focused on giving customers choices when visiting the restaurant. However, the decision didn’t alter Zhu’s primary goal when bringing the Hibachi Grill Express to Covington.

“Even though we’re not a traditional hibachi restaurant,” Zhu said. “The quality and safety of our food is not compromised.”

Zhu continued to stress that all the food is freshly prepared and made, too.

Located at 11425 Brown Bridge Road, there are numerous menu items to select from.

Starting with the appetizers, the Hibachi Grill Express offers French fries, chicken and veggie egg rolls, cheese wontons, an assortment of chicken wings and more.

But, according to Zhu, what’s “really been going” has been fried dumplings that come in an eight-count.

That’s just for starters, though. There is one main menu item that seems to be a fan favorite from what Zhu has observed.

“Hibachi entree is definitely something people love the most,” Zhu said. “It comes with hibachi sauce and yum yum sauce. It just gives the customer a unique taste and spices things up.”

In addition to the sauces, the hibachi entree can be ordered in a variety of ways.

It is offered with vegetables, chicken, steak, shrimp and scallops. Customers can also order the entree with combinations of the aforementioned ingredients.

First, there’s the “Triple Lover’’ made with chicken, steak and shrimp. Another one is called the “Land Lover” that comes with streak and chicken whereas the “Sea Lover” comes with shrimp and scallops. The last combo is named “Land & Sea’’ when customers want the entree to come with one seafood and one meat.

All hibachi entrees are served with a side of fried rice and mixed vegetables.

Just the same, customers can expect more than just quality food when visiting the Hibachi Grill Express. Zhu and his staff pride themselves on providing a “relaxing” experience for all of their customers.

And, for Zhu, he aims to maintain this as a top priority to separate his restaurant from others in the area.

“We’re all friendly people and we’re all open-minded,” Zhu said. “We’ll do whatever it takes to satisfy the customer, too. And we really want to create an environment where [customers] can come in, sit down and relax. That way they can truly enjoy their food.”

The Hibachi Grill Express is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from Noon to 9:30 p.m.
