NCSO Explorers participate in Winterfest

The Newton County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 2010 participated in the 2013 Winterfest located in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Over 3,600 participants gathered from 13 states to experience what Venturing and Exploring is all about. The NCSO Explorers competed in four events: report writing, trouble unknown, felony traffic stop and DUI traffic stop. There were over 60 Explorer Agency Posts that competed in each event and the NCSO post placed 13th in felony traffic stops and 11th in DUI traffic stops.

 

The Explorer Post includes children ages 14-21 and who have an interest in learning about law enforcement as a career. The NCSO Post 2010 meets every Thursday night at 5:45 p.m. at the Sheriff's Office located at 15151 Alcovy Road. They will be holding fundraisers around town in the upcoming months, so please look out for those announcements. NEWTON COUNTY — The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NSCO) is seeking the community’s help in identifying and gaining information regarding an arson suspect. 

According to the NCSO, on Friday, March 7 at around 2:30 p.m., the pictured individual is believed to have deliberately started a fire at the Silos Clubhouse.

The NCSO is requesting that residents of the Ellington Community check their cameras during the Friday afternoon time frame. Videos can be emailed to alberto@newtonsheriffga.org.

If anyone has any information regarding the case, including recognizing the suspected arsonist, call Investigator Alberto at 678-625-1429.

There is no information currently available about the fire itself or any damage it may have caused. The Covington News has reached out to the NCSO and Newton County Fire Services for more information regarding the incident.
