In observance of Memorial Day and the celebration of our Independence Day July 4, Southern Heartland Art Guild held a competition for patriotic art, all of which is now on display at the gallery on the square until July 4. The winning entry was submitted by guild member and photographer Terry Godfrey, in collaboration with published poet, Robin Stansbury. Stansbury works for the VFW and has two sons in the army, soon to be deployed.

Second place went to Kristine Bliss, with her All American Apple Basket, and third place to Carol Hutter for her Eagle Wrapped in Old Glory.

The gallery is having patriotic cards printed from the submitted art, with proceeds going into the instructional fund of SHA Inc., a nonprofit organization supporting the visual arts.
