Social Circle Parkway will open for use Tuesday, five months ahead of schedule, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The section from East Hightower to Cannon Road will open by 9 a.m. The section from Cannon Road to State Route 11 at the Walton Newton County Line will open by 4 p.m. Tuesday.

“The road will open as the work finishes Tuesday,” said District Engineer Brent Cook. “It has taken much coordination and hard work and we are proud to open this project five months ahead of the contract completion date of Halloween. The intersection at East Hightower and Social Circle Parkway is a four way stop. Please slow down and be cautious driving through the area as people start using Social Circle Parkway.”

This $8.1 million construction project was awarded to E.R. Snell Contracting Inc. of Snellville, Georgia. The 2.73 mile project connects to the existing northern section of the Social Circle Bypass building 2 lanes of new roadway from East Hightower Trail to State Route 11 at the Walton/Newton County Line. The project completion date is May 31 for road work.
