Mr. Jack Eugene Smith, 58, of Shady Dale, died Monday, March 25, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Smith was born in Dahlonega and moved to Jasper County at the age of 13. His parents were the late Francis Monroe Smith and Mary Tatum Grizzle.

Mr. Smith was a member of West End Baptist Church in Social Circle. He worked for Mobile Chemical for around 25 years and retired as a paint and body mechanic from Sundown Collision.

He loved to attend flea markets, yard sales and thrift stores where he would find old toy cars to add to his collection.
He enjoyed collecting and repairing automobiles. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and riding motorcycles and dune buggies.

He loved music and would play drums in several bands.

His brother Joseph David Smith preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Smith of Shady Dale; sons Billy Smith of Monticello, Bobby Smith, Jeff Smith and Dane Smith, of Covington; step-children Edmund Harper of Covington, and Lorie Mitchell of Madison; grandchildren Madison Smith, Matthew Smith, Mason Smith, Jayden Smith, Sarah Smith, Daniel Smith, Christian Smith and William Smith; step-grandchildren Logan Harper, Haley Harper and Treyton Mitchell; and brothers and sisters James Smith of Covington, Lavonne Newton of Shady Dale, David Grizzle and Ricky Grizzle of Covington.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow, March 28, at the Chapel of Jordan Funeral Home in Monticello.

Interment will be held in Providence Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Rev. Gene Hammonds will officiateServing as pallbearers will be Greg Smith, Buck Smith, Edmund Harper and Justin Mitchell.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 27, at Jordan Funeral Home in Monticello.

Otis Daniel Criswell, age 72, of Covington, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on February 26, 1953, in Athens, Georgia to Melvin Daniel (Coach) Criswell and Veeda Claire Kirkland. 

A proud graduate of Newton County high school, class of 1971. Otis went on to join the army National Guard, serving 6 years. He dedicated 30+ years of his career as a senior Claims representative for George Farm Bureau.

Beyond his professional life, Otis was a passionate University of Georgia football fan. During football season, he could always be found on the deck grilling with family and friends with at least two TVs playing the game. He also loved traveling with his family for martial arts tournaments across the country and cherished time spent relaxing on the beach.

Otis is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Daniel (Coach) Criswell, Veeda Claire Kirkland and brother, Duane Criswell.

Left to cherish his memory or his children, Jamie (Tony) Pascale Loganville, Georgia, Brian (Carlie) Criswell of Barnesville, Georgia, and Matt Criswell of Covington Georgia; Grandchildren: Kayla and Emma; sister, Donna Criswell Hiett; brother, Dallas (Robin) Criswell; nieces and nephews, Michael, Kimberly, Kevin, Brandon, Preston, and Destiny. 

Otis will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched. A celebration of Otis ‘s life will be held at Faith Tabernacle Church. 631 Ralph Rd - Conyers, Georgia 30094 on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 3:00 pm.
