Ray Cofer, age 95, of Newborn, passed away Dec. 13, 2017. Cofer, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly served his country during World War II. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of dedicated employment. Cofer was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in Tucker, and most recently attended Shiloh Baptist, in Newborn, while his health permitted. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter, always had a vegetable garden and devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Preceding him in death were his first wife, Helen Cofer; second wife, Jackie Cofer; and his parents, W. Lawson and Kate (Dickens) Cofer.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Elaine and John Deaton, of Eatonton, Joan Smith of Matthews, NC, John and Brenda Cofer, of Flowood, Mississippi, Sharon Cooper, of Florida, Mike and Stephanie Cooper of Newborn; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Cofer of Norcross; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cofer will be held Sunday, Dec. 17, 1:30 p.m., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. John Cofer and Pastor Danny Sorrells officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery, in Tucker.
