A thriving community

In Wednesday's paper we published a front page story detailing the new downtown revitalization project proposed to help invigorate the central business district of Social Circle.

The proposed redesign was presented by the Urban Collage Company.

We have said before that after the bypass is finished in 2012 - a project that will divert tractor-trailer traffic around the city - Social Circle can become a booming, pedestrian-filled city.

In becoming this type of city, we hope that the small-town charm of the city will be maintained.

The plan put forth by the Urban Collage group we feel accomplishes this.

The plan still needs some tweaking, but it is a great step forward for positive growth in the city of Social Circle. Hopefully the revitalization will ensure that the town thrives, while maintaining its sense of community.

Our Thoughts: Remembering Nancy VanKleeck

The Covington News would like to take a moment to remember Mrs. Nancy VanKleeck. We became acquainted with her a few years back while she was asking for information about the jail log. She had a ministry in which she would write letters to inmates telling them about Jesus. She was able to write over 11,000 letters. She was a true woman of character. We will miss her.
