The Rockdale County Special Operations Unit is currently investigating a head-on collision that occurred this morning on Highway 212.

The accident occurred at just before 7 a.m., when a 35 year-old female driving a Ford Explorer was attempting to pass vehicles in the westbound lane of the highway. According to the Special Operations Unit, she struck a tan-colored Nissan Maxima that was traveling Eastbound.

The 39 year-old driver of the Maxima, a female Rockdale County resident, died at the scene. The driver of the Explorer was entrapped in the wreckage, and is reported to have had visible injuries. She was ground transported to Atlanta Medical Center.

The name of the victim is being withheld, pending notification of her family. According to the Special Operations Unit, charges are pending as the investigation continues.
