The eighth annual Kimberly Chance Atkins Foundation Tennis Tournament is slated for Saturday, and organizers say this year shows promise of the being the best year yet for the event.

Eighty teams have signed up this year to participate in Saturday's fundraiser, which raised $40,000 last year for mammography vouchers for uninsured and under-insured women through a partnership with Rockdale Medical Center, Rockdale County Health Department and Newton Medical Center.

"So far this has been the best year ever," said Foundation Executive Director Brenda Edwards. "We are going to have an excellent turnout, our sponsorships have been fantastic from the community and we are expecting a very exciting tournament."

Though team registration is closed, Edwards said sponsorships and raffles are still open to everyone. A 50" TV is up from grabs through a $10 raffle, and the ball drop is returning this year at noon on Saturday when a bucket truck will drop 250 marked balls on an open court. The closest to the target wins $1,000. Ball drop tickets are available online and during the event for $10. The "breast" friend $175 donation sponsorship is still available and provides one mammography voucher.

The tournament begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Rockdale Tennis Center on Parker Road and finals are slated for 1 p.m. Saturday. For more information about the tournament visit www.kimatkins.net.
