IN BRIEF: The Rockdale County school board approved the ability to modify the calendar for budget cuts but did not yet change the calendar for the 2011-2012 school year, pending more information gathering, at their meeting Thursday night.

Chief Financial Officer Lee Davis said a recommended calendar option would likely be brought to the school board's work session and meeting in May.

Chief Academic Officer Rich Autry said there were 1901 responses to the online survey posted on the Rockdale County Public Schools website, which was live April 15-20, with 417 comments/suggestions. Out of the responses, 778 were teachers, and 380 were other RCPS employees, 657 were parents, 86 were students. The school system has about 2500 employees altogther, both classified staff and faculty, and about 16,000 students. Autry said he was still reviewing the comments and suggestions and said the survey was a tool to gather public imput and information but emphasized the survey information was one factor in choosing how the calendar would be modified.

The school board's budget committee will also meet at 5 p.m. before the next school board work session on May 19 at 954 North Main Street, Conyers, Room 404.
