The early national signing day period was in full effect and at Eastside High School, athlete Jayden Barr made a life changing decision as he chose the college of his choice.

Barr chose to sign with Georgia Tech over many other Division 1 schools. Barr is listed as a three-star safety and ranked as 92nd safety in the country according to the different recruiting services sites. Barr has been committed to the Yellow Jackets since June 27 of this year.

A family environment is what Barr was looking for in choosing a college and Georgia Tech who is led by head coach Brent Key.

“A family is what Tech really showed me and it made me feel at home,” Barr expressed. “Although the goal is to win games and potentially have the chance to make it to the next level, they are all about setting you up for the future outside of football.”

The Eastside football season came to an end in the elite eight of the GHSA AAAA state playoffs as the Creekside Seminoles won 26-0 over the Eagles. The Eagles led by the head coach Jay Cawthon finished the season 11-2 and advanced to the elite eight.

With the season behind him, Barr spoke about what separated this year’s Eastside team from others.

“We knew what we had to do as a team in the offseason and coach Cawthon made sure that this was a player-led team,” Barr said. “We had leaders on this team and it definitely showed today as three of the leaders signed to Power 4 schools.”

Although Barr will be playing on the defensive side of the ball,  he finished his season with 23 rushing touchdowns with 941 rushing yards, just under the 1,000 yard mark. On the defensive side, he was able to grab two interceptions and 56 total tackles from the safety position.
