NCRC to host youth baseball tournament

The Newton County Recreation Commission (NCRC) will host a Training League summer baseball tournament Saturday through Thursday, June 11-16. The tournament will take place at City Pond Park in Oxford, with the first games beginning at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. NCRC’s athletic manager Horace Stroud and recreation coordinator Arsenio Nolley will be coordinating the tournament. There will be no games on Sunday, with action resuming Monday-Thursday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The Training League caters to boys ages 5-6-years-old and runs from March to June.

Gabrielsen Cup features two local junior golfers

The First Tee Chapter of Atlanta conducted its annual Gabrielsen Cup Junior Golf Tournament at John A. White Golf Course July 28 and 29. The tournament honors its founders, James and Bopsy Gabrielsen who created First Tee of Atlanta in May of 2000 and features youth in the First Tee program. Alexa Anderson, an eighth grade student, and Dorea Dewberry, a 10th grade student, at Peachtree Academy were invited to take part in the cup.
