The Newton Rams and Eastside Eagles varsity basketball programs were in action late Tuesday night, squaring off against region opponents before the holiday break.
The Rams hit the road to face the Morrow Mustangs, as the girls program looked for its third region victory of the year, while the boys program hoped to continue its hot streak and win its third consecutive game.
The Lady Rams entered the contest with a 5-3 overall record and a flawless 2-0 mark in region play, while the Lady Mustangs looked to hold home court with a 6-6 record and 1-1 mark in Region 2-AAAAAA.
The boys program, fresh off a win over the Eagles last week, looked to improve its 6-1 record and 1-1 standing in region play. The Mustangs entered the contest with a 4-5 overall record, but fell in their last contest 53-51 to Northeast.
The Lady Eagles hosted region rival Monroe Area Tuesday night, hoping to best the Lady Purple Hurricanes in their region opener. Eastside entered the contest with a 6-3 overall record, but an 0-2 mark at home after falling to Newton and Henry County earlier this season.
The boys program was also seeking its seventh win of the season against Monroe Area in its region opener.
Due to the late finish of Tuesday games, full action can be found online Wednesday morning.
