A trio of Newton Rams took the field last weekend at the sixth annual 44 Classic at Truist Park.

The event — which is in honor of baseball legend Hank Aaron — is hosted by the Atlanta Braves and is sponsored by Nike.

Three players from Newton were selected to compete in the event.

Senior Caden Brown, junior Josh Brown and sophomore Kendall Turner each took the field at Truist Park over the weekend.

In 2023, Josh was named as the All-Cov News Breakout Player of the Year. Caden made the All-Cov News First Team while Turner was named as an All-Cov News Honorable Mention.

The 44 Classic showcase features 44 of the top diverse high school baseball players from the southeast and players in the Braves’ RBI Summer League.

On the first day of the event on Saturday, Sept. 21, players participated in an exclusive pro-style workout where they had the chance to take part in throwing and fielding drills, batting practice, a home run derby and more.

The athletes took part in these drills on the same field that players such as Ronald Acuna Jr. and Michael Harris III play on almost every day during the season.

On Sunday, Sept, 22, the players competed in an exhibition game that was managed by former Braves such as Marquis Grissom, Marvin Freeman, Johnny Estrada and former MLB player, Lou Collier.

While the players competed in the drills and in the game, college coaches and professional scouts watched on.
