'Skins sit atop Class A, Eagles earn sixth place at state duals

After strong showings at the regional duals, the Social Circle Redskins and Eastside Eagles carried the momentum into their respective state meets as both teams placed.

The Redskins once again claimed the Class A-Division I trophy while the Eagles ended the meet in sixth place.


Redskins repeat, earn second consecutive Class A duals title


Social Circle did it again this past weekend at Heard County High School as the Redskins seemingly pushed their way through the rest of the Class A competition.

Social Circle 74, McIntosh Academy 6

The event started off with Social Circle’s best match of the day.

Against McIntosh Academy, almost everything was going right for the Redskins.

With the only blemish coming from a loss by fall to DaMontae Holland(113), Social Circle won in the other 13 matches.

The Redskins received wins via fall from Levi Kendall(175), Dillon Evans(215), Nick Morrell(285), Gable Hargrove(106), Lauden Ethridge(126), James Sievers(132), Tristan Hembree(138), Dane Kracht(157) and  Jarett Chriswell(165).

Cohen Hargove(120) captured a technical fall win while Cale Prater(150) received a forfeit win.

The only decision win over the first match came from Xzavion Colclough(190).

Social Circle 62, Dublin 15

Although the win was not to the degree it was against McIntosh Academy, Social Circle still defeated Dublin handley in the quarterfinal round.

The Redskins dominated Dublin the lower weight classes as the Redskins received wins from Gable(106), Corbin Stephons(113), Cohen(120), Ethridge(126), Sievers(132) and Hembree(138).

Prater(144), Wall(150) and Chriswell(157) each earned wins via fall in the match.

Social Circle’s only losses in the quarterfinal were result of Dublin’s Nazyon Mitchell(190), Domimarkeyo Walden(285) and Dwane Bouyer(175).

Social Circle 61, Trion 15

An almost identical result followed the Redskins into the semifinal with a win over Trion.

Similar to the quarterfinal, the lower weight classes led the way.

Gable(106), Jayden Holmes(113), Cohen(120), Ethridge(126), Sievers(132), Duren(138), and Prater (144) earned wins in the match.

Kracht(157), Chriswell(165), Kendall(175) and Morrell (286) continued their sharp days with wins over Trion.

Trion had a trio of wins over the Redskins as Coleman Lee(150), Brandon Chandler(190) and Lane Harris(215) ended up victorious.

Social Circle 51, Toombs County 18

The Redskins ended the day the same way they began it — dominant.

Gable (106), Holmes(113), Cohen(120), Sievers(132), Duren(138), Kracht(165) and Kendall(190) earned wins as each wrestler finishes the event undefeated.

Social Circle also tallied wins over Toombs County from Morrell(285), Wall(150) and Evans(215).

Toombs County earned wins from Wyatt Bunch(126), Tyson Brantley(144) and Dabvn Wadley(157).


Eastside continues strong season, earn best finish in state since 2009


The Eagles left the Class AAAA duals at Ola High School with a top six finish in the event as Eastide produced a quality finish amongst 15 other teams.

Ware County 40, Eastside 33

Despite the top six finish, the event started off a tight loss for the Eagles as it was a mixed bag against Ware County.

Eastside acquired a pair of very quick wins via fall from sophomore Micah Mostek(106) and senior Malachi Riley(165).

Jordan Amadee(150), D’Elisson Lamadieu(157) and Jamorrie Cole(190) earned decision wins for the Eagles while Charles Henderson(120) and Nolan Christian(126) both won via fall.

However, Ware County maintained an edge throughout as wins from Jaden McKelvin(144), Gunter Fore(175), Jalen Hampton(215), Kyler Matthews(285) Jordan Maxwell(113) Rodrigo Reyes(132) and Evan Thomas(138) gave the Gators the win.

Eastside 55, Westminster 15

The loss to the Gators moved Eastside to the consultation side of the bracket, where it was first met by Westminster.

Eastside made quick work of the Wildcats as the Eagles managed to get wins in a variety of ways.

Amadee(150), Lamadieu(157), Riley(165), Cole(190), Mostek(106), Henderson(120), and Christian(126) stayed in their winning ways with victories in the match.

Michael Abernathy(175), Malachi Thomas(285), Hassan Williams(132) and Rylan Daniel(138) earned their first wins of the event in their matches against the Wildcats.

Eastside 41, Locust Grove 38

The Eagles' battle with Locust Grove was their first of back-to-back close matches in the consolation bracket.

Riley(165), Cole(190), Mostek(106) and Christian(126)stayed perfect as each wrestler came away with a win.

Cadieu Dunlap(190), Henderson(120) and Williams(132) earned wins via fall in the match.

Locust Grove kept it close but was unable to surpass the Eagles.

The Wildcats earned wins from Avery Spencer(157), William McNair(175), Elisha Lamar(285), Ashton Akins(113), Brandon Armstrong(138), Matthew Watts(144) and Karter Nolan(150).

Eastside 40, St. Pius X 34

Eastside’s battle with St. Pius X provided another close match that resulted in the Eagles advancing.

Riley(165), Cole(190), Mostek(106) and Christian(126) moved to 4-0 in the event with wins over the Golden Lions.

Eastside received a pair of wins by fall from Thomas(285) and Daniel(144) while Williams(132) and Amedee(150) earned decision wins.

The Golden Lions grabbed victories from Michael Sciacchetano(175), Owen Kler(215), Richard Burke(113), James Soha(120), Meco Favors(138) and Luke Pinson(157).

Ola 49, Eastside 24

Three consecutive match wins for Eastside pitted them against Ola for a chance to advance for a higher placement.

Ultimately, the hosting Mustangs held too much of the edge for the Eagles to overcome.

Big wins via fall from Jacob Diamond(190), Jackson Sargant(150) and Max Meredith(120) led the way for Ola to grab the win.

The Mustangs also received wins from Zander Dossett(215), Landon McKee(285), Grabirl Easey(113), Lincoln Durden(138) Samir Ross(144) and Aidon Cole(157).

Despite the loss, the final match for the Eagles saw three of their wrestlers complete perfect days.

Riley(165), Mostek(106) and Christian(126) won their matches against Ola for each wrestler to finish 5-0 in the Class AAAA duals.

Eastside’s other wins in its final match against Ola came from Dunlap(175) and Williams(132).

The loss to the Mustangs cemented a sixth place finish for Eastside, the best since 2009.
