Social Circle Lady Redskins’ Peyton Brooks signed her letter of intent Monday morning. The senior penned her commitment to play soccer at Truett McConnell University.
Coaches, teammates, friends and family gathered in Social Circle’s media center to celebrate Brooks and her official signing.
Following the event, Brooks shared her gratitude for everyone in attendance and how they have helped her get to that point.
“I am just very thankful for everyone. Our coaches for their support, my family for their support, coach [David] McDowel for giving me the opportunity to play at [Truett McConnell] and for everyone showing up,” Brooks said. “I have a lot of support behind me and I am just so grateful.”
For Brooks, the decision was easy once she saw Truett McConnell in person and what they prioritize for their students.
“Their main goal is to glorify God with all they do and that was the biggest thing for me when looking for a school,” Brooks said. “The girls [on the team] are really great and they are a big family up there. I love the coaches, they are really nice. The campus is beautiful.”
Despite getting a soccer scholarship, Brooks played other sports for the Redskins while holding a 3.7 grade point average (GPA).
Brooks also ran track, played basketball and volleyball to go alongside her skills on the pitch.
Lady Redskins head coach Heather Richardson came to tears when discussing how much Brooks means to her and the soccer program.
“She is such a hard worker, she is always focused on what she can do to get better and what she can do to make the team better,” Richardson said. “She is selfless and real humble, just a great quiet leader to have on your team.”
Brooks has been one of Social Circle’s soccer stars for the last three years.
In her freshman season, Brooks finished with 27 goals and 10 assists. Her sophomore campaign ended with 72 goals and 25 assists and she had 61 goals and 11 assists in her junior year.
To go along with the stats, Brooks will forever be a part of Lady Redskins history as a member of the 2021 state championship team her sophomore year. The Lady Redskins followed that up with a Final Four appearance a season ago.
Social Circle is also back-to-back region champions.
With the signing official, Brooks is looking ahead to her final season as a member of the Lady Redskins.
“[I] just want to enjoy every second of it with my teammates and, of course, just playing the sport,” Brooks said.
