Social Circle, Ga. — The Social Circle Redskins’ boys team earned a 62-50 win over W D Mohammed on Friday. The Redskins dominated most of the game and the result was hardly ever in doubt, putting them to 2-1 in region play.
Social Circle’s offense took a few minutes to get warm and found themselves down 5-0 early in the first quarter, but that would be its largest deficit of the night.
Despite a timeout, the Redskins responded with a 12-2 run and led 22-7 by the time the first quarter ended.
The opposing Caliphs closed the gap in the second quarter, albeit not by much as Social Circle was still up 13 going into the half with a score of 31-18. Shooting struggles and a full-court press made W D Mohammed struggle to get points on the board, and they never truly found an answer.
The Redskins scored first to open the second half and then they began to run away with the game, including a run that put the Redskins up 44-22 with about half of the third quarter still to be played. By the end of the third, the Redskins led 49-33. While the Caliphs ended the third quarter on a slight run, they were never able to get the deficit to single digits.
“We just need to stay focused and keep playing,” said Social Circle head coach Norman Jones.
Social Circle led 52-40 when the game went under four minutes in the fourth, and led 58-43 with 90 ticks to go.
There were some fouls at the end of the game that drove the score up just a bit with the final score being 62-50. The win moved Social Circle back to .500 on the season and 2-1 in region play.
“We have been struggling to maintain momentum all season, something I gotta manage better, but they did a better job tonight,” Jones said.
